Owingtothis began in early 2003, creating music that they wanted to write, and playing shows wherever and whenever they could. In august 2003 the "An Awkward Silence" Demo EP was recorded at studio Inigo, London, and this instantly brought the band their first real taste of a fanbase and local success.
Next came the "Aurora" EP in November of that same year, and featured a primitive version of the now well known song "Blue Light (backs me)", recorded at Impact Studios, Milton Keynes. Again, this CD was an instant success and the band decided they wanted to take things a little more seriously from then on...which naturally meant heading back into the studio for a third time, to produce an EP they all felt they could be proud of, and this came in the form of the Sheislife EP. Only 60 limited edition copies were ever pressed, almost all of which were sold at the release show in January 2004. They then set about organising shows on the strength of this EP, and began touring the country, playing with bands such as Eden Maine, Burning Skies, Johnny Mental and November Coming Fire.
In mid-2004, Copro Productions got in contact with the band, and it was decided that Owingtothis would sign to their label "Casket Music" and head to Philia Studios (Stampin Ground, Earthtone9, Vacant Stare etc) to record a full-length album for Worldwide Distribution through Casket Music and Plastic Head Distribution. A month was then spent in the studio in total with producer Nick Hemingway (www.nickhemingway.com), with the result the storming 8 tracks that make up their debut album.
Owingtothis consider themselves a hardcore band, although they take influences from many different types of music, from Converge and As Hope Dies, to Sigur Ros and Neurosis. They do not follow trends, and will always make music that they love and enjoy playing. They are very passionate about what they do and their live show is always ferocious and emotion filled. This band does not bore you. They like to get in with the crowd involve everybody there, as all "hardcore" bands should do. Do not expect a static live show no matter how many people are there or where it is, Owingtothis will always give you their all.
After countless shows in 2003 and 2004, and even more blood and sweat, Owingtothis have come a long way. However, With record label backing, an album soon to be released in shops worldwide, and full-length tours currently being booked, 2005 will prove to be another very eventful for Owingtothis, so watch out |
