Marshan

Marshan

Releasing the mini-album "Kings Thursday on the Friday Street" (Copro Records) to rave reviews in 2001, Glasgow’s Marshan toured the UK extensively in support of the release, including the Nu Titans III tour (2001) and a tour with Canada's Sea of Green (2002). The release also received extensive airplay both in the UK (inc. BBC Radio One, BBC Radio Scotland, Total Rock Radio, Beat 106) and abroad (KNAC, 98 Rock (USA) etc). Promotion of the mini-album concluded with Marshan playing their first dates in the USA, including a breakthrough performance at the legendary SHoD IV Festival in Phoenix Arizona, alongside acts such as Unida and Dixie Witch. Amazed Stateside journalists indicated that Marshan could be at the vanguard of a new British invasion - "Marshan definitely was the first act of the weekend to bring the house down" Metal Maniacs; "Their performance was a revelation, truly the performance of the day if not the fest itself" Hellride Music

Over a series of sessions with Dave Chang (Orange Goblin, Acrimony) at Philia Studios in 2002 and 2003, Marshan completed work on their first full length album "Songs from Southern and Baseline"

Recent shows with the likes of The Warlocks, The Immortal Lee County Killers, Modey Lemon, Dozer, and Gonga, continue to bring new devotees to their unique sonic soup. This coupled with ecstatic initial feedback for the new record - "’Songs from Southern and Baseline’ may be one of the top records of the year" Hellride Music; "This will become a benchmark album for the genre" StonerRockChick.com - reinforce the fact that Marshan are not merely another flash in the pan Garage rock fad, or plodding "cloner" band. No, these guys are the real deal. A reaction to the American fashion parade that is the current music scene. The band embrace everything that made British rock music all conquering – great songwriting, genre defying creativity and incendiary live performances.

(Funbag Records). The result is 50 minutes of music which redefines the Marshan sound. The band veer from the all out rock which fuels their acclaimed live shows (Shake Yourself, Mind Dryer, Whisky and the Steamer), to more mellow and eclectic pieces (Roger Heat the Plate, She’s Gone, Out of Sight). Marshan’s melding of blues, rock, punk and folk flirts with a number of current bandwagons, but the band refuse to follow any trends, they simply follow the age old tradition of playing what they want to hear.
