Hamerex

Hamerex

Hamerex are a 5 piece Heavy Metal band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire in the UK. The band was formed in August 2004 by Steve Blower from the remains of an earlier attempt to start a band.

The original line-up from 2004 consisted of Tom Parkin, Shane Cartwright and Elliot Fleet and the band played their first gig on 9th March 2005 at a Comic Relief Battle Of The Bands at Pontefract New College without guitarist Tom Parkin and with Steve on vocals. The coming months saw Chris Moules join the band and the bands first gig
with full line-up followed shortly. The band went on to play a number of gigs including a headline slot at Bradford Rio's unsigned night and released their first 5 track demo.

The end of 2005 saw bassist Elliot Fleet leave the band though helping out in 2006 with a couple of gigs and the recording of the bands second demo 'The Gates Of Hades'. Rob Butcher replaced Elliot on bass in June that year in time to take part in the bands first tour but left a couple of months later. Andy Firth then joined the band in October and shortly after Shane decided to leave the band. Claire Williams quickly came in on drums to replace him and the band saw out the year playing numerous gigs.

After a return gig at Bradford Rios in 2007 which saw Hamerex headline the unsigned night again Tom decided to leave the band. A few months later Phil White joined the band and Hamerex continued playing live which included a Battle Of The Bands where the band placed second and missed out on first by a single point. Gigs continued until
August that year after Claire announced she was leaving the band. The remaining members decided to start planning for the next recording while searching for a new drummer. Darren Kelsall got in touch with Steve and shortly after tried out and was asked to join.

Recording for the next CD was underway the following year and the band waited until April to return to playing live to make sure everyone was fully rehearsed. Phil left the band in June and Hamerex played the remaining gigs with one guitarist. Joe Wilson came to a couple of rehearsals to try out and was asked to join shortly after. Joe added a few guitar parts to the almost completed E.P. and the 3 track demo 'If It's Too Loud, You're Too Old' was released in November with the band playing their last few dates of the year including a gig supporting Power Quest.

4th April 2009 saw the release of the bands 1st E.P. Into War which received mixed reviews some good, some bad and some in between. In November the band signed to Swerve Records and the band finished their year off by playing at their self organised all dayer which saw a number of great bands play on the same day including Iron Void and Conquest Of Steel.

Hamerex went into the Studio in March 2010 to record the Lycan E.P. which was released in May and received positive reviews. The band promoted the E.P. while playing numerous gigs and plans started for the recording of the debut album which started in August and carried on in to the new year.

The band and Swerve Records mutually parted ways in January and the band played their first gig at the Black Flag in Wakefield which turned out to be one of the bands best gigs in the 6 years of playing live. In between gigs the band focused on completing their debut album which
was completed in September.

The debut Hamerex album 'Rites Of Passage' will be released on Casket Music in 2011.
