Formed in South London in the summer of 2007, The Dirty Reds began life as a 3-piece band after the collapse of their previous project. After jamming in the shed of the lead guitarist’s parent’s house they quickly realised the musical limitations of just one guitar, they recruited a second guitarist to achieve a fuller sound and The Dirty Reds were born.
After a summer of writing new material they were given their first live booking at a dingy underground club in Leicester Square, London. A healthy turn out of fans who were curious to see how the band had evolved from previous projects and a lively, emphatic performance secured the attention of two major promoters on the live music circuit in London.
The band recorded their first demo at the end of 2007; hastily recording 4 songs over one weekend on a shoe string budget. They then found themselves playing headlining shows at more and more prestigious venues gaining more and more fans along the way.
The Dirty Reds have supported The Happy Mondays, The Thirst, The Tunics and have gigs lined up with ‘Super Group’ Domino Bones - Bez (Happy Mondays), Simon Moore (Stoned Roses/Ian Brown), Wags (Black Grape/Happy Mondays) and The Vortex featuring Paul ’Bonehead’ Arthurs (ex Oasis).
The Dirty Reds live shows have been described as aggressive, energetic and above all memorable, leading reviewers to write “... with the arrogant, self assured swagger of the Gallagher brothers and the raw, raucous energy of the Libertines ensured that this was a lively affair full of attitude backed up by quality tunes....” and “…went to The Jamm to see another band and was blown away by the energy of The Dirty Reds…with their stage presence it won‘t be long before they‘re trading the boards of bigger, better venues..”.
Having swiftly graduated from the small pubs and clubs and with a loyal, vocal fan base The Dirty Reds successfully secured a publishing deal with an Independent Record Label and recorded their heavily anticipated debut album Top Floor Madness – the name a homage to the Indie Mecca, The Venue, in South London, due for release in the Autumn of 2009.
In a time where most bands seem to be trying to create soft, romantic Indie pop a la The Kooks etc, The Dirty Reds take a much more honest approach in their sound. Rather than following the crowd and sticking with clean, jingly guitars and quiet introspective vocals, they draw influence from the Mod sound of the sixties and the Brit Rock of the nineties and everything else that grabs hold of you and provokes a reaction. With riff driven tunes played with unashamed dirty distortion it is not hard to see why they have caught the attention of industry insiders and promoters are queuing up to book them.
The future is bright for these four lads from South London, it is clear that they enjoy what they do and with well crafted songs, a dynamic stage presence and a strong following it will not be long before The Dirty Reds are the talk of the music industry. |
